The theme of our Lenten Journey is “Hearts and Hands!” The symbol of LOVE is
expressed by a HEART. The greatest LOVE this world has ever known is found in JESUS
CHRIST.  We focus on that LOVE during Lent as we are reminded in the words of Scripture,
“No greater LOVE than this that one would lay down one’s life for a friend”.  Such a LOVE as
His, could never really die, but only rise up again in glory. As we focus on that LOVE, we as
Christians are challenged to imitate His life by following His way.   I invite you to roll up your
sleeves and squeeze all the LOVE you can from your heart.

Lent is a time, when traditionally we are asked to make sacrifices. Many will
automatically think of giving up candy and sweets, others will devote more time to prayer
and quiet time. This Lent I ask you to consider using “H & H” that is your Heart & Hands for
your Lenten resolution. Open up your Heart and be compassionate to those who are hurting
and do something about it. Simply offering a listening ear or a shoulder to cry on, goes a
long way to soothing a broken heart. Jesus often takes the simple little things of life and
magnifies them to bring about an abundance of goodness. May God Bless the work of our
hands to bring about that reality.

In our day to day encounter with life, most especially as we begin the journey through
the season of Lent, make the most of it. I assure you that when Easter arrives you will feel
refreshed, renewed and ready to open your helping heart to hurting hearts: gently nudging
others to use their inner strength, perseverance and determination to bounce back and get
on their feet again, stronger and better .

God loves you and so do I,
    Fr. Joe.
