Families are functioning: Franticly, frenzied, fazed out
and fast paced.
Families come and go, families are large and small.

Father, mother, sister, brother and the extended family
of grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and so forth
on it goes. This is the family we were born into, and this
is the family that was co-mingled, blended and brought
about to form this union of mixed and mismatched
people.

We live with them, we leave them.
We can’t live with them, we can’t live without them.
They are what they are, they are who they are.

Sometimes they’re adorable and enjoyable; other times
they’re annoying and exasperating. Sometimes they’re
caring and sharing, other times they’re callous and
selfish.

They keep us healthy, they make us sick.
They keep us sane, they drive us crazy.

We’re proud of them, we’re embarrassed by them.
We can’t stand to be with them, we can’t stand to be
without them.

Sometimes we are sure we must have been switched at
birth; sometimes we wish they could be somebody else;
always we miss them when they’re gone.

Let us pray for those who have no family in orphanages,
shelters, nursing homes, penitentiaries, runaways and
street people.

God gave us our family.
Let us thank God for our family.
Let us pray for God to bless our family and all families.
